140 years of GANS “Luxury for bed and bath”
For 140 years, the traditional Viennese company Gans has been selling, manufacturing and cleaning down duvets, fine bed linen and everything related to bed and bath

140 years ago, in 1882, A. Gans opened the first down factory in Vienna. Unique in the production of down duvets and down pillows and the use of the most modern cleaning machines for down and feathers, the aristocracy as well as the upper middle class and the luxury hotels of the Austrian monarchy were among the regular customers. Even today, the factory continues to produce individual down duvets, sews bed linen and offers a special cleaning service for down duvets. In the two shops on Brandstätte and Währinger Straße in Vienna and in the online shop www.gans.at, there is also a wide range of bed and bath products.
Handcrafted in our own sewing room
All custom-made down duvets from Gans are still sewn by hand and filled with the finest down. Special sizes as well as down mixtures and quantities can be accommodated. Individual bed linen is sewn by hand and embroidered if necessary in the in-house sewing and embroidery studio using a large selection of fabrics and patterns.
Durable modern
As one of the last companies in Vienna, Gans continues to offer cleaning of down duvets, pillows and feather beds, thus ensuring that down products last a long time. The down is washed in special machines and dried using the latest drying technology in conjunction with UV light. The down, washed germ-free in this way, is then filled into a new insert if necessary and is thus as good as new again.
Quality from down to button
For all materials processed, especially for down products, Gans pays attention to the best quality of raw materials. The majority of the materials used come from Austria and Europe. Animal welfare is also a particular concern. "We only use down and feathers from species-appropriate animal husbandry," explains Sophie Weiner, managing director and member of the third generation of the owner family, adding: "We love cozy down, beautiful bed linen and towels, sustainability is just as important to us as the cleaning service and high quality of all materials used." As a guarantee of this, the down and feathers from Gans are certified to the highest standard with the RDS certificate, which is also recommended by animal welfare organizations. The highest quality is not only ensured for the down products, but also for the buttons. The sustainable and break-proof thread buttons are made exclusively from organically produced natural fibers in accordance with the GOTS standard.
Luxury for bed and bath in the stores
In its two stores in Vienna and in its own online shop, Gans also offers bed linen, towels and accessories from international brands such as Christian Fischbacher, Yves Delorme, Ralph Lauren, Frette and Missoni Home, thus complementing its own range, which also includes a Gans towel collection. The constantly expanding product range, which now includes a special "Gans bed", enables complete bed and bathroom furnishings in the quality you expect from Gans.
Traditional business in women's hands
Since September 2019, the traditional Viennese company has been managed by Sophie Weiner together with Ing. Silvia Gütl. For both of them, the focus is on continuing the tradition in combination with the modern spirit of the times.
